High toll of Alexandria train collision to 49 people

    Date of release: 2017/8/11

(International: Euphrates News) The Egyptian television said Friday evening that the number of victims of a collision in the passenger trains in Abyss east of Alexandria, rose to 49 people.
Khalid Mujahid, spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Health, said that the crash of the trains in Alexandria, amounted to 36 dead and 123 wounded.
The incident took place in the Apis area east of Alexandria.
The governor of Alexandria, Mohamed Sultan, said that the collision of the two trains of Alexandria near Abys station was due to a wrong signal issued by the railway worker.
The governor explained that the wrong signal resulted in the conduct of the mobile train on the same bars "stopped", causing the accident.
The Prime Minister quickly set up a specialized committee of the Ministry of Transport to investigate the incident, find out the reasons for the incident and prepare an urgent report.
The authorities said they were working to provide cranes to lift the wagons and try to save more passengers on the trains, possibly trapped in vehicles damaged by the impact of the collision.
