Basra is moving towards an independent governor

    BASRA -
The Basra provincial council on Sunday is headed for the inauguration of an independent governor, "technocrats," after the resignation of conservative Majid al-Nasrawi.

Council member Ahmad al-Sulaiti told the Journal News that "the mismanagement of the province of Basra and the failure to provide services prompted the political blocs within the provincial council to consider the nomination of an independent technocrat for the post of governor instead of resigned Majid Nasrawi."

He added that "the provincial council is currently engaged in extensive dialogues between the mass to resolve the post of governor of Basra."

The governor of Basra, Basra Majid Nasrawi, last Thursday, during the opening ceremony of the bridge, Mohammed Baqir al-Sadr in the province resigned from his post, while the Integrity Commission issued a decision to prevent travel until the completion of investigations.
