Electronic home rental systems in China

BEIJING (
Reuters) - China's technology giant Alibaba signed an agreement with the Hangzhou government to use the company's technology to create an electronic system for home-leasing operations.
Under the agreement signed earlier this week, the system will cover apartments for rent from all sources - government, individuals, property developers and
agents.
People wishing to rent a home in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province will be able to use the application and website created by Alibaba at each stage of the lease, from searching for apartments, signing contracts and paying money.
Han Junqing, director of the Hangzhou Property Registration Center, said that information on apartments, user reviews and valuations of landlords, tenants and agents would be shared.
Sources in the government and Alibaba said:
The smart home rental system, as it is called, will be supported by massive data, electronic payment technology and the company's commercial credit system, and can prevent fraud.
The Chinese government attaches top priority to developing its property rental market to curb the rise in house prices in major Chinese cities. Hangzhou was among the first 12 cities selected by the central government to take fundamental reforms to promote the property rental market. China has begun to adopt advanced systems in a move to regulate the real estate market and prevent any cases of manipulation.  Hangzhou was among the first 12 cities selected by the central government to take fundamental reforms to promote the property rental market.
