WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump announced the abolition of two business advisory boards following the resignation of their executive directors to protest against his slow condemnation of white supremacists in Virginia.
"Instead of putting pressure on the businessmen in the Manufacturing Council and the Strategy and Policy Council, I'm going to put them off, thank you all," Trump said on Twitter.
Earlier in the day, Richard Tromka, president of the American Labor Federation - the Association of Industrial Organizations, the largest trade union in the United States, announced his resignation from a board that would advise the president on the economy, joining a number of other corporate board heads.
"We can not join a council with a president who tolerates intolerance and domestic terrorism," Tromka said. "We must resign on behalf of American workers who reject any form of legitimization of these racist groups."
