US oil inventories fall

The US Petroleum Institute announced the decline in crude oil inventories in the United States last week as refineries cut production while gasoline stocks and distillates increased.
Crude stocks fell 3.6 million barrels over the week ending August 18 to 465.6 million barrels, while analysts expected a 3.5 million barrel decline. The Petroleum Institute said crude stocks at the delivery point in Kashing, Oklahoma fell 462 thousand barrels.
The figures showed that the consumption of crude in refineries was 73 thousand barrels per day.
Gasoline inventories rose 1.4 million barrels, while analysts forecast in a Reuters poll to drop 643 thousand barrels.
Distillate stocks, including diesel and heating oil, rose 2 million barrels from expectations of a further 93,000 barrels.
US crude oil imports fell 81,000 bpd last week to 7.5 million bpd. Ending / 25
