Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received in Cairo a US delegation on the peace process headed by Jared Kouchner, senior adviser to the US president and son-in-law, a day after Washington blocked financial aid to Egypt.
The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, Alaa Yousef, said that during the meeting, al-Sisi pointed out Egypt's keenness to continue working to strengthen relations between the two countries in various fields and to continue coordination and consultation with the US administration in order to develop bilateral cooperation.
Al-Sisi spoke about the importance that Egypt attaches to reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, pointing to the ongoing contacts and efforts exerted with the concerned parties to advance the efforts to revive negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
He added that members of the US delegation stressed the importance of Egyptian-American relations during the meeting and expressed their appreciation for Egypt's efforts in combating terrorism and extremism as well as its role in supporting efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue.
The delegation reviewed the contacts they have made so far with the various parties in the region in an effort to push forward efforts to re-route negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, pointing out that their tour of the region aims to crystallize a specific vision in this direction.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri met with the American delegation, reviewing Egypt's assessment of the political and security situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. He referred to the negative aspects of the stalemate in the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides and their implications for the security and stability of the entire region.
The Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said that Shukri's talks with the US delegation focused on encouraging the Israeli and Palestinian sides to resume negotiations. The two sides agreed on the importance of continuing consultations and coordination between Egypt and the United States during the next stage in order to push the peace process forward and resume negotiations.
