Amnesty International missiles hit the civilians of tenderness "from all sides"

    24/08/2017

Amnesty International warned Thursday that civilians in the Syrian city of Raqqa are stuck in a state of "deadly chaos" under a barrage of gunfire between the "democratic Syria" forces backed by the international coalition and elements calling for it.

"As the battle intensifies to take over the tenderness of the oppressor, thousands of civilians are surrounded by a state of deadly calamity, with shells coming from all sides," said Donatella Roveira, Amnesty International's senior crisis adviser.

The Syrian Democratic Forces, a coalition of Kurdish and Arab factions, has been fighting in the city of Raqqa, the stronghold of Syria's most prominent organization, since June 6, controlling about 60 percent of them.

Fighting in the town of Raqqa has led tens of thousands of civilians to flee, and the United Nations estimates some 25,000 are still trapped inside the city.

"The Syrian Democratic Forces and the United States forces, which know that the organization uses civilians as human shields, should redouble its efforts to protect civilians," Roveira said. "We must avoid disproportionate attacks and indiscriminate shelling and open safe roads to keep them away from shelling." Sf
