The Times: The West told the Syrian opposition that "President Assad" exists to stay

    26/08/2017

The Times newspaper published on Saturday the Syrian issue and the Western shift towards it, noting that the West told the Syrian opposition that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is there to stay.

Lucinda Smith of Istanbul and Richter Spencer, a Middle East correspondent for the Middle East, wrote a report on a radical change in Britain's position towards the Syrian war after they abandoned their long-held demand that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad give up power and even accept an election.

The report pointed out that Western allies told Syrian opposition leaders during their recent meeting in Riyadh that they had no choice but to accept the presence of Assad in Damascus, and therefore there is no room to insist on the need to step down before negotiations on the future of Syria.

"We have been saying that he should step down as a precondition, but now we have to say that he has to go in a transitional phase and he has the right to run in a democratic election," said British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

The West for the "Syrian Opposition": Assad will remain

    10:27 - 26/08/2017

The British newspaper "The Times" on Saturday revealed a radical change in the position of Britain and its allies towards the Syrian crisis after they gave up their long-held demand that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad give up power and even accept an election to participate.

The newspaper said in a report that "the Western allies told the Syrian opposition leaders during their meeting in Riyadh recently that they have only to accept the presence of Assad in Damascus and therefore there is no room to adhere to the need to step down before negotiations on the future of Syria."

"We have been saying that he should step down as a precondition, but now we must say that he has to go in a transitional phase and he has the right to run in a democratic election," said British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson. Ending / 25
