US military interceptors successfully intercepted a mid-range ballistic missile during a test of air defense systems in Hawaii.
The missile was launched from a base in Parking Sands, Hawaii, said Sam Greaves, director of the US Missile Defense Agency. The SM-6 was launched from the John Paul Jones destroyer.
This is the second successful test of the ballistic missile interceptor system.
Graves said a missile defense system would be developed to stand up to threats. This test has become the "key key" in the development of the US air defense system.
