Turkish party warns of "crisis" in case of continued presence of Turkish troops in northern Iraq

The opposition Democratic People's Party of Turkey on Sunday called on the Turkish government to state its position on the survival of Turkish troops in northern Iraq, warning of a sectarian crisis in the event of continued Turkish military presence.

"The Turkish government is required to submit a detailed report on the size of the forces in northern Iraq and the tasks entrusted to it and whether there was an agreement with the Iraqi government," the leader of the party Mohammad Ali Aslan said in a statement.

"The survival of these forces is not true and will create a sectarian crisis between the two countries," said Aslan, a deputy in the Turkish parliament.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Gaooshoglu said in a press statement during his visit to Baghdad on Aug. 23 that the camp of Baheshika, where the Turkish troops were present, was under technical talks between Ankara and Baghdad. He avoided talking about setting a date for the withdrawal of his troops. Ending / 25
