The United States and South Korea will deploy more anti-missile defense systems in response to North Korea's nuclear test, the South Korean Defense Ministry said Monday.
The deployment of the "Thad" air defense system has angered Beijing. But the ministry said in its statement that "four remaining launchers will be deployed soon in a temporary consultation between the United States and South Korea to address the increasing nuclear and missile threats from the north."
After North Korea announced its successful test of a sophisticated hydrogen bomb, the White House warned Sunday that North Korea would not hesitate to use all its capabilities, including nuclear weapons, if Kim Jong-un's regime continues to threaten Washington or its allies.
The White House said that after North Korea's provocative nuclear test on Sunday, US President Donald Trump telephoned Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Pyongyang's announcement that the test was a test of a hydrogen bomb that could be used as a warhead for an intercontinental ballistic missile.
"President Trump reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to defend our country, our lands and our allies with all our diplomatic, traditional and nuclear capabilities," the US presidency said in a statement.
