"The Iraqi government can not use military force against the Kurds because of the referendum on the independence of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to be held this month, according to an Iraqi-US agreement after 2011. The
Kurds intend to hold the referendum on independence on September 25 As an initial step to establish an independent state. "Under a US-Iraqi strategic agreement after the withdrawal of Iraqi forces from Iraq 2011, it is not permissible for Baghdad to use military force against the people of Kurdistan, or against any other Iraqi component," said Shakhwan Abdullah. The Iraqi parliament voted Tuesday to reject the planned independence referendum in Kurdistan this month. The vote came despite the boycott of Kurdish deputies to the session.

"The Iraqi government is obliged to abide by this agreement, and it can not exceed these legal obligations, not against the Kurds, not even the Sunnis or any other Iraqi component," Abdullah said. "Even if a decision is made in this regard, Iraq will not be able to implement it," Abdullah said. Abdullah pointed out that many countries have declared to us their support for the independence of Kurdistan in the closed rooms and will announce their support after the referendum. The Iraqi side stepped up its calls to reject the right of the Kurds to determine their fate on the 25th of this month, which exacerbated the differences between the two sides. The Kurdistan region has recently rejected several students from capitals and diplomatic missions demanding the postponement of the referendum scheduled on 25 of this month. Despite the reservations of Baghdad, Ankara and Tehran, there is no possible sign by the Kurds to postpone the referendum they plan to make the nucleus of their future state. k24
