(Reuters) - Royal Dutch Shell is seeking to withdraw from the Majnoon oil field in Iraq and the Iraqi Oil Ministry has begun operations to finalize its exit, according to a letter from the ministry and oil officials. A letter signed by Iraqi Oil Minister Jabbar al-Luaibi dated August 23, addressed to the Shell unit in Iraq, gave the Anglo-Dutch company permission to withdraw from the Majnoon field. "We respect your desire and your decision to seek an acceptable end to the share of Shell Iraq in Majnoon," the ministry's letter, seen by Reuters, said. Three Iraqi oil officials and a senior Iraqi engineer working with Shell in Majnoon confirmed the authenticity of the letter. In November, oil industry sources told Reuters Shell was considering selling its oil fields in Iraq as part of its global $ 30 billion asset disposal program.
