(Reuters) - Negotiations from Russia, Turkey and Iran in a joint statement said on Friday after talks in Kazakhstan that the three countries had reached an agreement to establish no-escalation zones in Syria for six months.
"The areas will include, in whole or in part, the eastern Ghouta and the provinces of Idlib, Homs, Lattakia, Aleppo and Hama. The six-month period could be extended in the future," the statement said. According to the statement, Russia, Iran and Turkey will control the area of reducing tension in Idlib. A Russian negotiator said Russia, Turkey and Iran had agreed to send 500 observers to the tension-reduction zone in the Syrian province of Idlib. Russia's special envoy to Syria announced on Thursday that the agreement to establish a fourth zone to reduce tension in Syria was "very close" as a new round of talks in Kazakhstan began to end the war, which has been going on for more than six years.
During the previous rounds in Astana, it was agreed to establish tension reduction zones in the north-western Idlib region, Homs in the center of the country and the eastern Ghouta near Damascus.
