US President Donald Trump said he would be "ready" to help Mexico, the southern neighbor of the United States, after the violent earthquake that hit its capital and the surrounding area, destroying many buildings and causing casualties.
"God bless the people of Mexico City, we are with you and we will be with you," Trump said on Twitter.
A massive earthquake struck Mexico on Tuesday, killing at least 140 people, according to official statistics, with 30 people killed in Mexico City, where rescue operations are continuing.
Officials said the rescue teams were working amid the rubble of 29 collapsed buildings to look for survivors and recover the bodies of the victims.
The state of Morelos, south of the capital, was the most affected by the quake, with 42 people killed, officials said.
The town of Puebla in the southeast of the capital killed 26 people, while in the state of Mexico City west of the capital killed eight victims of the earthquake.
The disaster occurred on Tuesday, the 32nd anniversary of the devastating 1985 earthquake that killed 10,000 people.
