[ltr]The United States and its NATO allies have launched large-scale military exercises off the coast of Britain to test ways to deal with any possible nuclear attack by North Korea.[/ltr]
[ltr]The British newspaper "Independent" on Monday that the exercises "massive shield" taking place north-west coast of Scotland with the participation of thousands of military fighters and warships, adding that the allies are training for the first time in the old continent to intercept missiles carrying nuclear warheads.[/ltr]
[ltr]British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon said the scenario of the exercises was to counter a threat from North Korea and other "rogue states", saying that Britain was still at the forefront of seeking the most effective response to the growing threat.[/ltr]
[ltr]The British Defense Ministry said the "massive shield" was one of the country's largest exercises, and it will take a full month (until October 18) with the devastating participation of the "TYP-45" and two "TYP-23" 11 other warships, 10 aircraft and 3.3 thousand military personnel from the United Kingdom.[/ltr]
[ltr]In addition to the US and British military, Canadian, French, German, Dutch, Italian and Spanish troops are participating in the exercises to train in monitoring, tracking and destruction of ballistic missiles supposedly fired at an Allied.[/ltr]
[ltr]The US Navy's Sixth Fleet announced that the exercises would be held every two years to develop coordination among allies in deterring their enemies.[/ltr]
[ltr]It should be noted that this comes at a time of continued escalation between the United States and North Korea, where the two parties exchanged fire threats, against the backdrop of a successful ballistic missile test conducted by Pyongyang.[/ltr]
