    [rtl]Trend Press / Agencies[/rtl]

[rtl]Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Thursday to discuss the Syrian crisis, focusing on discussing the details of the establishment of the "reduce tension" in Idlib.[/rtl]
[rtl]Turkey and Iran agreed earlier this month to deploy hundreds of observers in Idlib.[/rtl]
[rtl]There has been a consensus between Turkey and Russia since 2016, when the two countries agreed to overcome the tension between them that resulted from Ankara dropping a Russian fighter in 2015.[/rtl]
[rtl]Dmitry Peskov, Putin's spokesman, described the cooperation between the two countries as "very close".[/rtl]
[rtl]Earlier this month, NATO member Turkey signed a $ 2 billion contract to buy Russian S-400 missile defense systems.[/rtl]
[rtl]Russia is working with Turkey to establish "tension reduction" zones in Syria, a move that could help end the civil war that has ravaged the country since 2011.[/rtl]
[rtl]Analysts say both countries have a common desire to emphasize the strength of their relationship, but will not live up to the strategic alliance.[/rtl]
[rtl]While Russia supports its ally, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Turkey has sided with the armed opposition against him.[/rtl]
[rtl]Although Turkey has long demanded the overthrow of Assad, it has worked in recent months with Russia and Iran to gradually freeze the fighting.[/rtl]
[rtl]Three other "tension reduction zones" have been in place since last July, covering parts of southwestern Syria, the capital city of Damascus and part of the province of Homs.[/rtl]
