The Pentagon said on Thursday evening that the audio recording of a terrorist leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was proof that the latter was still alive.
"The US intelligence services have confirmed that the audio message attributed to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi seems authentic," the ministry's spokesman, Eric Bahon, was quoted as saying by the Anatolia news agency.
"Logically, [the recording confirmed] that he was alive until recently, or at least until the time he recorded his voice."
Last week, one of Da'ash's websites published an audio tape saying that he had called on his followers, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, to urge his followers to "continue fighting and launch attacks against the West."
Russia announced last July that it had killed al-Baghdadi in Syria with a massive air strike at the end of last May with a large number of terrorists in a meeting on the outskirts of Raqqa.
The United States and the Iraqi government denied the news, saying it was still hiding in the border area of Iraq and Syria.
