[ltr]A statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan angered Moscow, despite a clear improvement in relations between the two countries.

The statement angered Erdogan in Ukraine during a news conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Pietro Poroshenko, after their meeting in Kiev on Monday, saying that Turkey supports Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and will not recognize the dependence of the Crimea on the Russian Federation.

The Russian response was echoed by Russian Council member Alexei Pushkov on his Twitter page: "Whether Erdogan admits the Crimea's dependence on Russia or not, the status of the Crimea will not change. He knows that and does what Poroshenko does."

The Turkish president paid an official visit to Ukraine at the head of a large delegation, where he met with the Ukrainian president and senior officials there.

The Turkish president was accompanied by his wife Amina Erdogan, Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Ishiq, Chief of Staff Khulosi Akkar, Foreign Minister Mouloud Gawishoglu and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albirek.

The delegation also included ministers from the European Union, Turkish Chief Negotiator Omar Glick, Environment and Urban Development Mohammad Ouzhsky, Economy Nihad Zibekji, Transport, Marine and Communications Ahmed Arslan, Forestry and Water Weseloglu, Agriculture and Livestock Ahmed Ashraf Faki Baba.[/ltr]
