The leaders of the US destroyer John McCain have been relieved of their duties because of the incident that last summer killed sailors, according to a statement issued by Japan's Seventh Fleet.
The US destroyer "John McCain" hit "on 21 August" a commercial vessel near Singapore, killing ten sailors and wounding five others.
The captain of the destroyer, Commander Alfredo Sanchez, as well as the chief officer on board, Jesse Sanchez, was relieved of their duties on October 11 by a decision by Admiral Phil Soir, commander of the 7th Fleet because of their lack of trust.
"The investigation is continuing, but it was clear that the collision could have been avoided, and the captain showed short-sightedness, while the senior officers did not draw the training program on the destroyer as it should," the statement said.
At the same time, the two US naval officers were not demobilized, but were appointed to other positions in the 7th Fleet.
