A Canadian special unit has taken over a secret mission to trace and neutralize chemical weapons in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul and its surroundings.
According to the Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail, CJIRU, one of the special operations forces, succeeded in finding and destroying chemical weapons and hazardous materials in Mosul during the period From March to August this year.
They also contributed to the liberation of Mosul, Iraq's second largest city.
The members of this force also cleared the elements of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces and Iraqi forces after being subjected to attacks launched by the mustard gas.
About 200 Canadian soldiers are deployed for the training of Kurdish forces.
The Iraqi army had accused Daed in April of using chemical weapons against his forces involved in the process of restoring Mosul.
The Pentagon announced in February that tests had confirmed that Dahesh used Mosul University laboratories to produce mustard for later use in weapons production.
