The launch of the "Hope Dose" campaign in Basra to save children with cancer
12/10/2017 12:00 am [rtl]Basra / Saad al-Sammak Activists, media and intellectuals in Basra launched a campaign to donate money to buy medicines to treat children with cancer in response to a call by the director of the Basra Specialized Hospital because of the depletion of some medicines and medical supplies. The campaign began with the launch of Hachtagat on social networking sites with the titles "Little Warrior" (Save the Children of Cancer) and "Save Your Child by Blood". The director of the hospital, Dr Ali Eidani told the "morning" that most of the drugs treated for cancer are about to run out, stressing that some of them have already been implemented from the warehouse to keep medicines in the hospital. He added that since 2013, the hospital has been suffering from a shortage of life-saving medicines for children suffering from cancer due to austerity and lack of financial allocations, noting that the proportion of equipment is close to 35 percent of the needs of children infected under 14 years of hospital stay, the rest of the shortage of medicines are provided for Through the donations of actors and personalities to do good deeds. The hospital is specialized in cancer diseases with a capacity of 130 beds, including 60 advanced cancer patients, while receiving sick children from all governorates, including Basra, which topped the proportion of injuries up to 60 percent of the total enrollment in the hospital. In addition, activists stressed that their campaign aims to help the sick people and draw the attention of the local and central governments to find a stable financial resource to fund the needs of the Children's Hospital for cancer, in addition to the Center of Cancer Oncology and Radiation Center in Basra. Media activist Morteza al-Karakoshi said the campaign, dubbed Amal, will continue until the government provides a special budget to treat cancer patients. Activist Safa al-Furaiji said that the campaign seeks to find a temporary solution to the current crisis, so the funders decided to raise funds through a bank account, in addition to coordinating with the telecommunications companies in order to launch a code through which they wish to support cancer patients by sending a text message The amount deducted from the subscriber will go to the campaign's bank account. A press statement issued by the ministry said that Al-Hammami toured the corridors of the hospital, inspected the patients' conditions, met with its director and medical doctors and briefed him on the weakness of the potential.
