Iraq's production of wheat and barley decreased in the winter season of 2017

The Agricultural Statistics Directorate announced a decline in the production of wheat and barley for the 2017 winter season.
"The production of wheat amounted to 2974 thousand tons for the provinces covered for the winter season 2017, down 2.6% from last year's production of 2016, which estimated 3053 thousand tons," the Directorate of the Central Bureau of Statistics said in a report.
"The average yield of one dunum of wheat on the basis of the total cultivated area amounted to 705.5 kg, down 14.6% from last year's season, which was estimated at 825.7 kg."
"The production of barley is the other dropped for the winter season of 2017, where production was estimated at 303 thousand tons, down 39.3% from the previous year estimated at 499 thousand tons," noting that "the average yield of one hectare of 369.4 kg for the year 2017 down Estimated 21.4% from the previous year, which amounted to 470.2 kg.
The Directorate pointed out that "the province of Wasit ranked first in the production of wheat for the winter season of 2017 and the amount of 800 thousand and 652 tons, followed by the province of Diyala amount of 449 thousand and 719 tons," indicating that "Qadisiyah ranked first in the production of barley and the amount of 73 thousand and 300 Ton, followed by the province of Maysan and the amount of 43 thousand and 785 tons.
