Follow - up / .. assured US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Sunday that President Donald Trump wants to resolve the crisis with North Korea through diplomatic means.

"US diplomacy will continue until the first bomb falls from the North Korean side," Tillerson told CNN.

"Sanctions and diplomacy have led to an unprecedented international consensus against North Korea's nuclear weapons program," Tillerson said.

The US president told his foreign minister last month, "Do not waste time trying to talk to Kim Jong-un."

Tillerson again declined to comment on whether he had described President Trump as "the fool," and said he would not honor the question by giving any answer, saying he did not want to "deal with these little things."

In recent months, North Korea has defied international will by conducting its sixth nuclear test and launching two missiles over Japan.

Analysts say it is clear that Pyongyang is determined to develop a nuclear-capable missile, which would pose a threat to the American continent despite UN sanctions.

    Channels of communication

Tillerson revealed last month that the United States is in "direct contact" with North Korea, and is considering the possibility of talks with it.

This revelation came as a surprise to some, especially since the firefighters had dominated the scene between the two countries in previous months.

But the US president followed this with a tweet on the Twitter social networking site, saying to his foreign minister: "Do not waste your energy, and we will do what we should do!"

Tillerson did not deny describing Trump as "the fool" after a July meeting at the Pentagon. The US president responded by challenging the secretary of state to undergo an IQ test, but a Trump spokeswoman said it was just a joke.
