    BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
Two northern regions of northern Italy will hold two referenda on autonomy on Sunday, with organizers insisting that their referendum has nothing to do with the separatist vote in Catalonia.
The two most famous Lombardy and Veneto districts include Milan and Venice, which account for more than 30% of the national economy.
Lombardy and Veneto, which make up about a quarter of Italy's population, seek semi-autonomous rule, giving them more control over their financial resources. Citizens there complain that they have paid plenty of money to state coffers to support poorer citizens.
Although the two regions have in the past sought complete independence from Rome, they have now made it clear that the referendum on autonomy rather than separation.
"The two referendums are not at all in agreement with the demand for secession in Catalonia. The separatist ideas do not play a part in the Italian autonomy debate," said Jürgbück, executive director of the Italian-German Chamber of Commerce in Milan.
He said voters would be asked about the form of autonomy they would like to be negotiated with the Rome government and presented to the national parliament for approval.
"The goal is to allow the two regions to spend more of their money," Jorg Bok said.
The far-right Northern League, which governs Lombardy and Veneto, is the main sponsor of the referendums, and no party calls for a vote to reject the referendum.
Although this Italian measure is not binding, it is the last in a series of referendums on secession or independence from the mother country, such as the Spanish Catalonia referendum last September and the Scotland secession referendum for the United Kingdom in 2014.
