Abadi: US Secretary of State in Saudi Arabia has a message to Iraq

A deputy close to Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Sunday that US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was in Saudi Arabia in conjunction with Abadi's visit as a message to Iraq not to escalate with the Kurds.
"The presence of the US Secretary of State in Saudi Arabia in conjunction with Abadi's visit is a message to the latter that Washington is unhappy with the escalation with the Kurds and progress towards the disputed areas," MP Jassem Mohammad Jaafar told Al-Maaloumah.
Jaafar added that "the recent statement of the US embassy has brought some of the threshold on Iraq on the progress of federal forces towards the disputed areas and the imposition of state control over them," adding that "these files will be discussed with Tilerson in Riyadh."
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson arrived in Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening, in conjunction with Abadi's visit to attend the joint Saudi-Saudi coordination council. Ending / 25
