زيادة Increase oil exports from the South
According to the Iraqi Oil Ministry that Iraq increased on Saturday, oil exports from the southern Basra area 200,000 barrels per day to compensate for the shortage of fields in northern Kirkuk.
"The decision we have made comes as compensation for the losses Iraq lost as a result of the drop in oil exports from the northern fields through the Turkish port of Ceyhan because of law enforcement operations in Kirkuk and a number of northern provinces," the ministry said in a statement.
"The increase in Basra exports keeps the total Iraqi oil production within its OPEC quota," the minister added.
He announced that the company «Basra oil» pumping 200 thousand barrels per day from the fields of the center and south, in addition to the rate of daily oil exports of more than three million and 200 thousand barrels per day, which are exported through southern ports. "The pumping of new quantities will be continued until oil exports from northern fields return to their previous levels," he said.
Production from the northern Kirkuk region fell last week as a result of military operations aimed at recovering the region from Kurdish fighters who have been in the region since 2014.
An oil ministry official said on Thursday that Iraq would not be able to return oil production from Kirkuk to the previous levels before Sunday Due to loss of equipment in the Avana and Bay Hassan fields, two of the region's largest oil fields.
Before the closure, the northern oil region exported about 530 thousand barrels per day, half of them from the Kurdistan region of Iraq and the rest of the province of Kirkuk.
