[ltr]Germany is preparing a financial blockade on Turkey by limiting the financing of banks and companies associated with the Turkish government, the Bloomberg International Economic Agency reported.[/ltr]
[ltr]Bloomberg quoted sources as saying that the loans are being given through the German Development Bank KfW, the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.[/ltr]
[ltr]According to Bloomberg, formally none of the above institutions have frozen funding, but all have imposed stricter terms and restrictions.[/ltr]
[ltr]In addition, a number of private banks took such a step. For example, Commerzbank is reviewing its policy of working with Turkish counterparts in order to avoid reputational risks.[/ltr]
[ltr]Turkey's relations with the European Union are further aggravated by the strained relationship with the United States (which is politically linked to Europe) against visa issuance. Just a few days ago, Washington refused to issue visas to members of the Turkish Justice Ministry delegation.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Turkish currency, which fell by 2% in the past few days, has weighed on the balance of payments as Ankara is mainly an importing country.[/ltr]
[ltr]Ankara and Washington share accusations about the Kurds' untouchables from the former and those close to each other, while the United States criticized the regime of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the suppression of journalists after the arrest of a journalist in The Wall Street Journal on charges of having a "terrorist agenda" and supporting the Kurds.[/ltr]
