DAMASCUS (Reuters) - The Syrian government rejected a report sent to the UN Security Council for holding a chemical attack on the opposition-controlled town of Khan Sheikun in April that killed dozens of people, state media said.

The official Syrian news agency quoted a Syrian Foreign Ministry official as saying that "Syria rejects the form and content of what was stated in the report of the Joint Commission of Inquiry of the United Nations and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, which was announced yesterday."
The official said the report "came in response to the instructions of the US administration and Western countries to exert more political pressure and aggressive threats to Syria's sovereignty."
The report of the Joint Investigation Committee concluded that the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the release of sarin gas in the town of Khan Sheikun on April 4 this year.
"Damascus condemns the adoption of the Joint Investigation Mechanism on the statements of the criminals who committed this immoral act in Khan Sheikun and suspicious witnesses presented by the terrorists to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and to the joint investigative mechanism in addition to what they called open sources," said a statement issued by the official of the Syrian Foreign Ministry. Minimum credibility and transparency ".

"Syria reaffirms that it has complied with the letter and spirit of the Chemical Weapons Convention and that it no longer has any toxic chemicals banned under the Convention and considers the use of chemical weapons to be" immoral and condemnable in any place, at any time and under any circumstances, "the official said.
