(Reuters) - At least six people were killed and 15 others injured in a car bomb attack and shooting near the site of the Sept. 11 monument in Manhattan, New York, police said.
Police arrested a suspect in a run-off south of Manhattan, while New York police said they did not rule out the hypothesis of a terrorist act.
She pointed out that the truck driver rammed a car and then got out of his truck carrying a weapon before the police shot him, while the newspaper "New York Post" that the gunman shot at least six people.
Local media reported that the incident occurred at around 15:00 local time (19:00 GMT) between a truck and other vehicles, and then one of the drivers fired on the occupants.
"The incident ended at 16:00 (GMT 20:00) and there is no longer any threat," a New York City spokesman told AFP.
The scene of the incident south of Manhattan witnessed an intense security deployment to the police after the shooting.
US police said they had told US President Donald Trump about the incident, adding that "the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital after being shot by security personnel.
" New York police said that "the suspect ran over a group of cyclists and runners."
