The parliamentary legal committee confirmed that the electoral law set a condition for candidates for executive posts in local council elections.
"There are many amendments to the election law scheduled for May 15, 2018," committee member Hassan al-Shammari said in a press statement on Saturday.
He added that "the legal committee was able to put a constraint on the candidate for the post of governor after the provincial elections," explaining that "the holders of executive positions of ministers and governors should not be holders of dual nationality."
He pointed out that "the restriction was placed in the nomination for executive positions, in order to prosecute anyone found guilty of corruption, which entitles the law to prevent him from travel and arrest and hold him accountable for his actions."
The House of Representatives voted in late November, on the date of the elections on 15 May 2018, stressing that many of the amendments will be the electoral law.
