[ltr]Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Russian State Duma, Yuri Shvetkin, suggested that Russia keep its military bases in Syria, to prevent the situation from worsening again. "The situation may be complicated at any moment," Shavitkin said in a press statement on Tuesday.[/ltr]
[ltr]It was essential that military bases remain in Syria after the cessation of hostilities, so that, even after the end of hostilities, redeployment would be possible. Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Oleg Sromolotov has said that the withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria after the victory over the organization 'Daash' is linked to the situation there, stressing that the Russian military bases in Hameim and Tartous will remain.Russian forces have started their military operations in Syria since September 30, 2015, in support of the Syrian government's efforts to combat terrorist organizations, particularly the Da'ash and the Nasra Front.[/ltr]
