Economist: the decision to close the branches of Iraqi banks in the Kurdistan region "catastrophic"

Baghdad / Baghdadiya News ... Economist Hammam al-Shamma, on Thursday, that the decision of the Iraqi Central to close the branches of Iraqi banks operating in the Kurdistan region is a disastrous action on Iraqi banks and will return damage to the Iraqi economy as a whole. "This decision is political before it is an economic decision, and the one who took it is not aware of the technical aspects of what this procedure will entail if it is implemented," al-Shamma said in an interview with Baghdadiya News. "The banks will bear the subordination of this decision, they will not be able to collect the amounts of loans and facilities granted in the region and the bank will have to pay the obligations owed to the depositors, otherwise the exchange will collapse because of lack of confidence in credibility." Al-Shammaa called on the parties behind this decision to "review their accounts and comply with what the technicians in the Central Bank decide."

I think it is a way of bringing the Kurds to their knees. Once the Kurds are hamstrung and can't operate internationally, they are totally at the mercy of Baghdad.

    Good point.

Also, less demand for dollars if people can't get them out of the country.  Keep in mind the large amount of ghost employees on the Kurdish payrolls that are being rooted out.

Remember, no taxes on people until 1 January.  Could this also mean tariffs (import taxes) at the border at the same time because by then the borders will be secure.

Did you notice that we haven't seen any articles on the "delete the zeros" project?

Will this be a "then suddenly moment?"

Tariffs are an integral part of economic reform.  The economic development plan requires tariff on imported goods to raise their prices and spur domestic production.

She explained that «the new tariffs to be imposed on imported materials to Iraq will be added to those fees on the citizen by trade, making the prices are high in the markets», calling on the government to «put those ports under its control to be able to apply the customs tariff better and achieve the desired goals of law enforcement".

The Iraqi federal government has wanted to implement economic reform, but were stopped because of the inability to enforce tariffs in Kurdistan.

For its part, revealed a member of the economic and investment commission parliamentary Najiba Najib about the existence of influential politicians in control of the border crossing points, as pointed out that the application of the customs tariff law need to take strong measures to control market prices.

Najib said that «there is coordination and communication between Baghdad and Erbil to hold a meeting for the application of the customs tariff», adding that «the law would be of great interest to both parties».

She added, that «the meeting would be of the order and not to the order of another attributed the reason to the law in force and binding and the duty of the application«, stressing that «there are considerable difficulties for the application of the customs tariff».

She Alynan «Iraq is in control of the border ports where«, stressing that «those ports do not all fall under the control of the federal government».

Without border control tariffs could not be enforced.  Things are different now.

This "and saw the deputy in the parliamentary finance committee, earlier, that the customs tariff which the government updated it will start from border crossing points, starting from the first of August next revive the Iraqi economy and will increase the purchasing power of citizens" .anthy 29/9 P

Notice (above) the words: "revive the Iraqi economy"  The delete the zeros project will "increase the purchasing power of citizens" is also integral to economic reform.
