[ltr]US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Friday warned nations and groups against using Lebanon as a means of a larger proxy war in the Middle East, stressing that the United States strongly supports Lebanon's independence.[/ltr]
[ltr]He called on all parties inside and outside Lebanon to respect the integrity and independence of their constitutional institutions, noting that there is no legal place in Lebanon for any foreign forces.[/ltr]
[ltr]"There is no legitimate place or role in Lebanon for any forces, militias or armed elements other than the legitimate security forces of the Lebanese state," Tillerson said in a statement issued by the State Department.[/ltr]
