[rtl]Hong Kong signed two free trade and investment agreements with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in what an island official said was a clear and muffled protest over growing trade protection in the region.[/rtl]

[rtl]Hong Kong's Commerce and Development Minister Edward Yao said the two agreements culminated in three-year talks expected to come into effect on January 1, 2019. At the earliest, they aim to achieve deeper and bolder integration of markets with ASEAN countries.[/rtl]

[rtl]"In the face of trade protectionism in other parts of the world, the two agreements are clear and clear to everyone here for a more open and free trade," Yao said.[/rtl]

[rtl]The total trade volume between Hong Kong and ASEAN was 833 billion Hong Kong dollars ($ 107 billion) last year, according to official figures, while trade in services reached 121 billion Hong Kong dollars (16 billion dollars) in 2015.[/rtl]

[rtl]The ASEAN-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement was signed on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Manila, the capital of the Philippines.[/rtl]
