As the Ministry of Water Resources called for speeding up in the face of the problem of water scarcity, hundreds of farmers demonstrated in Dhi Qar province in front of the governorate building to demand treatment of the escalating water crisis, Which prevented them from cultivating their land in the winter agricultural season.
The Governor of Babylon, Sadiq Sultan, during his visit to the Directorate of Agriculture Babylon, "the preparation of an integrated plan includes all aspects of the problems facing the agricultural sector, including water scarcity and finding solutions to them and prepare statistics on irrigated land during this season to cope with the crisis we suffer from.
The Sultan said that "conservation agriculture this year is in danger if these continued low rates of water irrigation with the knowledge that the province of Babylon is an agricultural province in the first place."
The Sultan said that "the results of the meetings of the joint committees, which was formed membership of the departments mentioned will be presented at the meetings of the Supreme Coordinating Committee of the provinces with the Prime Minister."
The Governor of Babel during his visit to the Department of Water Resources that "the provinces of Diwaniyah and Samawa shared with us hold us responsible for the scarcity of water, while the Ministry of Water Resources is responsible for the allocation of quotas and the province of Babylon suffers more than the rest of the provinces of water crises because they have more agricultural areas than the rest of the provinces and share Less of them ".
He pointed out that "the need for coordination between the provinces of Babil, Diwaniyah and Samawa provided by Shatt al-Hillah water in order to obtain sufficient quantities of water for irrigation of agricultural land, which suffers from scarcity of our province and the provinces with us."
Stressing the "need to move and find solutions and a result before the meeting of the Higher Coordinating Body of the provinces not associated with the territory with the Prime Minister."
He stressed that "the need to deliver water to the table of Babylon and to areas beyond the reach of now through the installation of pumps have been requested from the Ministry of Water Resources to be distributed equitably on the main tables to bring water to all areas during the watering time set by the ministry."
Hundreds of farmers demonstrated in Dhi Qar province on Tuesday to protest against the escalating water crisis that prevented them from cultivating their land during the winter season.
The head of the Federation of Agricultural Societies in Dhi Qar Mekdad Yasiri told "Al-Mada" that "peasants of the province of Dhi Qar demonstrated to demand the provision of water quota for them within the agricultural plan for the current winter season," stressing that "the scarcity of water caused the suspension of most water projects and led to depriving the peasants Of the cultivation of their land and their liver losses after they had prepared the land and plowed and sowed seeds in preparation for the agricultural season mentioned.
"The shortage of water, which has not been seen in the province for several years, has caused great damage to farmers and farmers as they coincided with the implementation of the agricultural plan."
He attributed the Yasiri "causes of scarcity to bypass the riparian provinces on the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, especially the provinces of Muthanna and Wasit on the share of the province of Dhi Qar of water, which is very small and does not correspond to the need for conservation of water resources.
He stressed that "80 percent of the agricultural plan in the province depends on the river Gharraf, which is descended from the Tigris River and this river is currently suffering from a sharp drop in water releases, which stopped the table Akil and project Al Ibrahim and Shat Alkasr and Zaidiyah project and other irrigation projects.
The president of the Federation of Agricultural Associations called on the federal government and the Ministry of Water Resources to "replenish the province with urgent and urgent water connections to save the thirsty farmers and allocate an additional share of water that covers the requirements of the agricultural plan of irrigation water and raise the excesses of the share of the province by the riparian provinces." Tribal conflicts due to water scarcity ".
For his part, farmer Ali Ibrahimi told "Al-Mada" that "the district of Sayed Dakhil and his peasant is suffering from complete drought now and even drinking water is being transported by pelvic cars."
Brahimi pointed out that the "Shatt al-Ibrahim feeder for the said judiciary dried up completely due to lack of water releases and disinfection of sediments."
Mohammed al-Rikabi said in an interview with Al-Mada that "the inhabitants of the agricultural areas of Sayed Dakhil resorted to drilling the artesian wells, but those wells that are at depths of 6 - 7 meters appeared salty water not suitable for human and even animal," asserting " The death of large numbers of herds of cattle as a result of thirst and water pollution. "

On November 8, 2017, the local government in Dhi Qar province threatened to sue the Ministry of Water Resources and Wasit Governorate against the backdrop of the water shortage crisis and over water quotas.
It is noteworthy that the Higher Agricultural Committee in Dhi Qar, expressed its objection on 2 October 2017 to reduce its agricultural plan for the winter season for more than 20 percent under the pretext of water scarcity, while warned the agricultural associations to exacerbate tribal conflicts in the province and its impact on the agricultural season as a result of many Overflows on rivers and streams. The Marshlands comprise five districts of Dhi Qar province, centered in Nasiriyah, and are divided into 10 administrative units out of 20 which are located in the governorate. In the early 1990s, the area of the Nasiriyah marshes is estimated to be 1 million and 48,000 dunums. In 2003 about 50 percent of the total area of the Marshlands of Nasiriyah.
