    The Minister of Health announced on Thursday the launch of the pricing of medicines in the private sector throughout the country for the first time in 14 years, to ensure the citizen access to medicines from the origin of the world, and the subject of medical examinations, and prices are appropriate. 
    "The launch is an important step to control medicines, ensuring that the citizen has a safe, tested drug at competitive prices," Adila Hammoud said in a press release. 
    She explained that "the new program launched today, will end the phenomenon of drug manipulation, as the verification of sources of medicines, and fixing prices on all items will be eliminated and the phenomenon of extortion of citizens." 
    The inspection department in Baghdad and the governorates will monitor the enforcement mechanisms and will take all legal measures against violators. 
    Many government hospitals suffer from severe shortages of certain medicines and medical devices, including cancer.
