"The detachments of the two directorates carried out a large-scale campaign to address the phenomenon of begging children in the streets and intersections of Baquba district and more than 30 children and adolescents were detained," the provincial police chief, Major General Jasim Hussein al-Saadi, said in a statement. "The children were handed over to their families after a written pledge not to return to begging. The campaign came to save children and adolescents from an unknown future because most of them are being exploited in a grotesque manner and in different directions, some of them harmful to public security, especially in the presence of terrorist and criminal groups.
