    "Qatar has proposed to increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries from less than one billion dollars now to 5 billion dollars, five times more," Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari said.
    In a press statement following his meeting in Tehran with Qatari Economy Minister Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed al-Thani, Shariatmadari said that Iran's exports to Qatar during the past seven months amounted to about 97 million dollars and the volume of agreements between the two parties in the sector Technical and engineering services of less than one billion dollars.
    He added that given the special circumstances in the region, Qatar would like to develop comprehensive relations with Iran more than at any other time.
    "There are good grounds in many fields available in Qatar that can be used to develop economic relations with the world."
    Shariatmadari said Qatar would host the World Cup in 2022 and said that in light of the World Cup, it was possible to enhance cooperation in such fields as technical and engineering services.
    He expressed his hope for further trade volume, which has risen 120 percent in recent months.
    For his part, the Minister of Economy of Qatar said that Iran plays an important role in the arrival of goods from other countries, including Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan to Qatar by land.
    Ahmed bin Jassem bin Mohammed al-Thani said that during the meeting, it was confirmed that the volume of trade exchange between Iran and Qatar was increased and all obstacles to the development of relations were removed.
    He pointed out that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries has witnessed remarkable growth, and increased the volume of exports of food products and construction materials from Iran to Qatar.
