Oil prices rose in limited trading volumes Thursday ahead of the start of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) meeting in Vienna, where producers are expected to extend an oil production reduction deal that began in January to cut supplies and raise prices.
The OPEC meeting is held at the organization's headquarters in the Austrian capital of Vienna, with oil ministers from non-OPEC countries including Russia.
According to the OPEC website, the organization will hold an open session to be attended by the media at 10 am [0900 GMT] Thursday before a closed session at noon.
Oil ministers from countries outside the Organization join the meeting at 3 pm GMT [6 pm] followed by a joint press conference after the meeting.
Traders said volumes were low ahead of the meeting.
Brent crude for February delivery rose 31 cents, or 0.5 percent, from the previous settlement to $ 62.84 a barrel by 0704 GMT.
The January deadline ends on Thursday.
WTI futures rose 20 cents, or 0.4 percent, to $ 57.50 a barrel.
While no official statement has yet been issued, OPEC and Russia seem ready to extend oil production cuts until the end of 2018.
The cut-off agreement began in January and ends in March.
