In the House of Representatives, a campaign is underway to prevent dual nationals from running for the upcoming elections.

The MP for the National Alliance, Haidar al-Fawadi, in a press statement: "has been collected signatures of more than 50 deputies to prevent the participation of dual nationals in the upcoming elections."

He added: "The candidate must give up his foreign nationality before running in the elections, not to repeat the experience of escape from being suspected of corruption."

Al-Fawadi said that "the submission of this proposal coincided with the draft amendment of the election law, which is currently being discussed within parliament." He added that "the prevention of the participation of dual nationality has become a public demand and the call of the utmost importance at this stage, so the candidate must abandon his nationality Before participating in the upcoming elections, whatever his nationality or political status. "

He stressed that "the experience proved the escape of many officials who are suspected of financial and administrative corruption outside the country; they have dual citizenship, and Iraq was unable to recover them because they are foreign citizens."
