The Nikkei average ended lower on Tuesday, with big-cap stocks plummeting, and Fed's interest rate decision awaited.
The Nikkei <.N225> was down 0.3% at 22866.2 points, while the Topix index gained 1815.1 points, or 0.1%.
By 7:05 am GMT, the yen was up 0.1 percent at 113.42 yen.
KDDI fell 1.3%, while Fanuc fell 1.1%, an electronics manufacturing company, while mining and freight were up.
