Oil prices fell for a second consecutive session on Thursday, after a bigger-than-expected jump in gasoline inventories in the United States saw a sharp fall in crude inventories and US oil production continued to rise to record highs.
US oil inventories fell last week by 5.1 million barrels above expectations and crude output hit a record high of 9.78 million bpd, government data showed.
The data showed that "gasoline stocks jumped by 5.7 million barrels or more than twice the expectations of analysts, which was an increase of 2.5 million barrels."
Brent crude for the day closed at 90 cents, or 1.4 percent, at $ 62.44 per barrel.
Brent was hit by a 2.1% loss on a profit-taking wave after an unexpected closure of the North Sea Futis pipeline earlier this week pushed global benchmark crude prices above $ 65 a barrel for the first time since mid-2015 .
