Four Iraqis sued the British Ministry of Defense for ill-treatment and illegal detention during the war in Iraq after 2003.
The Supreme Court ruled that they were entitled to compensation under human rights law.
Lawyers said the four cases could pave the way for the settlement of more than 600 claims for civil compensation in this regard.
The defense ministry says it is "studying governance".
A London court has awarded one of the four men £ 30,000.
Abdel Wahed, who was arrested in a raid on a house in Basra in February 2007, was given £ 15,000 in compensation for "beating" him.
He also gave another £ 15,000 for what the judge described as "other humiliating and inhumane treatment he suffered, including a harsh interrogation and deprivation of sleep, vision and hearing."
He also compensated by 3300 pounds for 33 days of unlawful detention.
A statement from the legal team "Leigh De Soleistre" that the ill-treatment included the rotation of soldiers to run on the backs of detainees and cover their heads for periods of time.
"These cases occurred despite a political and military attack and in the media, and we were stigmatized to bring false claims to Iraqis, and the strong criticism we were given as lawyers we represent," said Sabana Malik, a law firm.
"It is essential that those who have been wronged by the British government, both inside and outside the country, are able to seek justice and equity, and their ability to do so in our courts is not a campaign of targeting people, but a test of the strength of our democracy, .
A spokesman for the British Ministry of Defense said that "the elements of our army have served with great courage in Iraq, and usually worked under very difficult conditions."
"We have seen the court's decision that the four detainees have not been properly treated, and we are studying the verdict."
