Iraq executes execution of second group convicted of terrorism within 3 months

     Dhi Qar / Hussein al-Amel

The central prison of Nasiriyah witnessed the execution of the death penalty for the second time in three months, involving 38 convicts of terrorist cases. These provisions earned a peremptory degree more than a year ago.
The implementation process was attended by the Minister of Justice and local officials in the province, as well as members of the victims of terrorism, according to sources.
On September 25, the Justice Ministry announced the execution of 42 people convicted of terrorism crimes, the largest since the beginning of this year.
The governor of Dhi Qar Yahya al-Nasseri told (the extent), "On Thursday, the execution of 38 terrorists in the prison of central Nasiriyah, after completing their legal procedures and the issuance of decrees on the death orders," adding that "the execution took place in the presence of the number From local officials and the families of martyrs. "
Naciri added that "the death sentences carried out last Thursday, came late and several years after the issuance of sentences against those convicted of terrorism," stressing that "the death sentences are often delayed implementation for years because of routine procedures adopted."
The governor of Dhi Qar said that "there is a flaw in the performance of the Presidency of the Republic in the issuance of decrees execution of death sentences after the completion of judicial and legal proceedings, which requires reconsideration mechanisms to issue decrees of their own." He called on the presidency to "shoulder its responsibility to expedite the issuance of death decrees against terrorists whose sentences have been categorized."
Naciri said that "the province of Dhi Qar bear a heavy burden in securing protection of the prison of Nasiriyah Central, which includes more than five thousand sentenced to various sentences and convicted of criminal and terrorist crimes," adding that "requires a serious stand by the federal government to face the threat posed by terrorists sentenced to death "He said.
"All those executed were Iraqis, including a person who also holds Swedish citizenship," a source at Nasiriyah prison said, adding that Justice Minister Haidar al-Zamili supervised the execution by hanging in the presence of a number of officials.
Amnesty International has repeatedly expressed concern over the implementation of the death penalty in Iraq, one of the world's most widely executed countries after China, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
"People who carry out bloody attacks against the civilian population must be brought to justice, but carrying out executions is not the solution," said Lina Maalouf, director of the organization's Middle East office.
"The execution of another mass execution, the second in three months, showed the Iraqi authorities blatant disregard for life and human dignity."
A December 5 Human Rights Watch report criticized both the central Iraqi government and the Kurdish authorities for the mass trials of suspected members of the Dahedash organization.
"It appears that the authorities are trying all the detainees suspected of belonging to a preacher under anti-terrorism laws, primarily for membership in the organization, without focusing on specific acts or crimes they may have committed," the rights group said in its report.
"At least 7,374 people have been facing these charges since 2014, 92 of them have been sentenced to death and have already been executed," the organization said, noting that the total number of detainees suspected of being members of the organization is "at least 20,000 based on information provided by government officials."
"Under the amnesty law of August 2016, these suspects who appear to have joined the organization against their will and did not participate in specific violations can benefit from amnesty after conviction," Amnesty said.
