Director of Saudi Studies Center calls for recognition of "Jewish Jerusalem"

A Saudi Studies Center official called on the Arabs to understand what he called "historical rights" for Jews in the region, calling for recognition of Jerusalem's "symbolism" for them and comparing them with the symbolism and significance of Mecca and Medina to Muslims.
Abdulhamid Hakim, director of the Middle East Research Institute in Jeddah (western Saudi Arabia), told Al-Hurra television in Arabic that Arabs should understand and recognize that Jerusalem is a religious symbol for Jews, such as Mecca and Medina as religious symbols sacred to Muslims.
"The Arab mind must be liberated from what it said was the Nasserite heritage and the legacy of political Islam in the Shiite and Sunni sects which instilled in the purely political interests a culture of hatred of the Jews and denial of their historic right," Hakim said in remarks he made in comments on US President Donald H. Trump's decision to recognize occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. In the region. "
