[ltr]JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Egypt, the UN Security Council's draft resolution on Jerusalem, which was debated by the UN Security Council on Monday, expressed its regret over the veto, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Washington's stance on the draft resolution.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The United States vetoed Egypt's draft resolution.[/ltr]
[ltr]The draft resolution was supported by the remaining 14 members of the UN Security Council, although it did not mention the United States or Trump by name but expressed "deep regret over the recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem."[/ltr]
[ltr]The US ambassador to the UN Security Council, Nicky Haley, said the United States was opposed to the draft resolution. "I thank Ambassador Nicky Healy, who defeated the lies. Thank you to President Trump. Thanks Healy. "[/ltr]
[ltr]"Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jews for thousands of years and they have no other capital," Healy told the Security Council. "Some countries want to distort the image of US President Donald Trump for special purposes."[/ltr]
[ltr]For his part, British Ambassador to the United Nations, Matthew Raikroft, said that East Jerusalem will remain a part of the Palestinian territories, pointing out that London will not transfer the British embassy to Jerusalem.[/ltr]
[ltr]The British delegate stressed that "the status of Jerusalem must be determined by direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians."
France's representative to the United Nations, Francois de Lauter, expressed his country's regret over the veto, pointing out that Trump's decisions would not change the common ground on which peace efforts should be based.[/ltr]

[ltr]Egypt regretted the failure of the Security Council to adopt its resolution on Jerusalem, because Washington vetoed it.[/ltr]
[ltr]"Egypt regrets that this important decision was not adopted in response to the conscience of the international community, which clearly expressed its rejection of the recognition by the United States of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel," the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.[/ltr]
