[ltr]WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US forces launched more than 120 air strikes on Yemen this year as part of a campaign boosted by the arrival of Donald Trump to the presidency, US officials said on Wednesday.[/ltr]
[ltr]Most of the raids targeted al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, which the United States says is planning attacks on its territory, officials said.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Pentagon also carried out strikes against the Yemeni branch of Daqash, which the Pentagon says has doubled over the past year.[/ltr]
[ltr]In addition to the raids, most of which are likely to have been carried out by marching aircraft, US forces have launched a series of field operations.[/ltr]
[ltr]"These operations have helped to eliminate terrorist networks and have made intelligence gathering, subsequent targeting and follow-up operations more productive and effective," said Lt. Col. Earl Brown, spokesman for the Central Military Command of the United States.[/ltr]
[ltr]US Central Command announced that US raids on the province of al-Baidah in central Yemen on 20 November killed Mujahid al-Adani, a leader of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, who came from neighboring Shabwa governorate.[/ltr]
