    [ltr]The southern Sudanese army and rebels said clashes took place between the two sides in the oil-producing region on Sunday, the ceasefire collapsed hours after its inception.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Both sides accused the other side of starting the fighting around the city of Kush in Unity State. A source working for humanitarian aid said 17 aid workers had fled the violence. There were no details of the casualties.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The government and rebel groups signed a ceasefire on Thursday in the latest attempt to end a four-year civil war and allow humanitarian groups access to civilians.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The cease-fire took effect on Sunday morning, but the clashes quickly erupted.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"Our forces came under heavy fire this morning in the Kush area, and our forces acted in self-defense and the attacking forces came back and defeated them," Dixon Gattlwak, speaking on behalf of the government side, said.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Lamb Paul Gabriel, a spokesman for the rebels, said that the army was the initiator of the attack, and rebel forces are now chasing government soldiers towards the city.[/ltr]
