[ltr]The US Justice Department announced on Friday that Romanians had been charged with allegedly hacking into electronic surveillance cameras of the Washington police as part of a plot involving ransom software.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The defendants were arrested in Romania on December 15 because of the incident, which said they had exposed computers connected to police cameras from January 9 to 12, days before the inauguration of President Donald Trump," the ministry said.[/ltr]

[ltr]"The issue was a top priority because of its impact on the protection tasks of the Presidential Guard and its potential impact on the security plan in the 2017 presidential inauguration," the statement said.[/ltr]

[ltr]"The defendants also planned to send malicious ransom programs to 179,000 e-mails," the statement said. "The investigation also identified specific victims who received the software and their servers were hacked through the scheme."[/ltr]
[ltr]"The charges against them include conspiring to commit electronic fraud and to commit multiple forms of computer fraud, which are punishable by a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment," the ministry said. Ending 29/34[/ltr]
